Expressions Art Exhibition
CALL FOR ARTISTS! The Whole Person, a nonprofit center for independent living, is seeking artists for its 7th Annual Expressions Art Exhibition. This is an opportunity for artists with disabilities to exhibit their work in a professional setting while making connections with the Kansas City arts community.
The exhibition, which will open April 7 at the Kansas City Young Audiences (KCYA) Auditorium and will remain on display at multiple venues through December 2017. Selected artists will receive an honorarium, the amount of which will be dependent on available funding and the number of artists selected. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2017 (no exceptions). Visit website for application.
About Expressions
The Expressions Art Exhibition provides opportunities for artists with disabilities to overcome barriers that may keep them from showing their art in a professional setting, and allows them to share their perspectives and experiences with the community. The exhibition celebrates artists’ abilities and unique talents, adds diversity to the Kansas City arts community, and exposes audiences to art that otherwise might not be seen.
Opening night attendees will enjoy music and dance performances, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, and conversations with the featured artists. Accessibility options at the event include Braille and large-print event programs, volunteer guides for descriptive audio tours, sign language interpreters and accessible entrances.
The Expressions Art Exhibition has been supported in part during our fiscal year 2016/2017 by the Francis Family Foundation, ArtsKC, Patricia Sweeny Memorial Fund, Missouri Arts Council and the Kansas City Neighborhood Tourism Development Fund.
